Award-winning singer performing in Castlebar tonight

FRESH from winning two awards at the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, singer and bouzouki player Daoirí Farrell performs at the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar, at 8 p.m. tonight (Wednesday, May 24).

Described by no less than Dónal Lunny as of the most important traditional singers to emerge in the last decade, Daoirí cut his teeth as a singer in Dublin’s famous Góilin Singers Club, where he was spotted early on by Christy Moore.

In 2013 he won the All-Ireland Champion Singer award at the Fleadh in Co. Derry, and in 2015 the prestigious Danny Kyle Award at Celtic Connections in Glasgow with the line-up FourWinds.

Daoirí launched his live solo career at Glasgow’s Celtic Connections in January 2016 and hasn’t looked back since.

A former electrician who decided to change profession after seeing Christy Moore perform on Irish television, four months after releasing the album True Born Irishman, Daoirí performed live at London’s Albert Hall as part of the BB2 Folk Awards and went on to win the Best Traditional Track Award and the Horizon Award for best newcomer.
