Status red wind warning issued for mayo

It’s time to baton down the hatches as winds are picking up over Mayo and other coastal counties.

Met Éireann has issued a Status Red wind warning - its highest level - for exposed coastal and mountain areas of Donegal, Sligo, Mayo, Galway, Clare, Limerick and Kerry. Wind gusts of 130 to 150km/h are possible. There is a threat of high onshore seas also.

The warning takes effect from 9 p.m. tonight until noon tomorrow but already winds are beginning to strengthen.

A Status Yellow rainfall warning has also been issued for Connaught and other western counties.
