Northgate startup delayed for planning reasons

THE need to secure planning permission for a communications antenna on the roof of its new National Business Centre in Castlebar has been cited by the company as the reason for delaying its start-up plans.

The delay was confirmed by the company - which first announced its plans to create 150 jobs in the Mayo capital in December 2013 – on Friday last.

The firm, which will provide a new born hearing screening service for the HSE as well as a computer file management system for hospitals, says its has rescheduled its recruitment plans because of the planning requirement with the first 10 staff to start by the end of May.

Northgate made it clear that it still intends to take on 150 staff in the long-term, as originally promised.

The first intake of staff at a leased building formerly owned by Eircom on Breaffy Road, Castlebar, was due to have taken place in April.
