The tavern appointed to Good Food Ireland

THE Tavern Bar and Restaurant in Murrisk has just been appointed as a member of Good Food Ireland, the Irish food experience brand.

Good Food Ireland comprises a collection of leading restaurants, hotels, cafes, food producers, etcetera, who are passionately committed to local food, highlighting Ireland's food culture. It describes itself as 'a unique trusted guarantee for good food holidays, eating out, learning to cook or for buying the very best Irish food produce'.

Ruth and I are absolutely delighted,” said Myles O'Brien, chef at The Tavern and co-owner with his wife Ruth Kiely. “We're very proud of the quality of our food and hospitality at The Tavern. We've been steadily acquiring food awards over recent years and we believe membership of Good Food Ireland is a natural step for us.”

Myles is a member of Euro-Toques, the European network of chefs committed to the highest quality produce. The Tavern is included in the prestigious Michelin Eating Out in Pubs guide 2014 and is recommended by international and Irish food critics and guidebooks. John McKenna has described it as 'the defining example of the Irish pub'.

Recently The Tavern has developed a reputation for interesting and quirky festivals and themed evenings. The May bank holiday weekend saw the inaugural Lobster Festival, which was an unqualified success. Myles has paired Mescan Beers with matching food for craft beer theme nights, and off season the Friday Curry Night has been a firm fixture for many years.

There's plenty more to come,” says Myles with a twinkle in his eye. “Watch this space for a rather interesting night in mid-August.” 

Any hints Myles? “Just think deep south,” is all he will say for now.
