Death of former mayo fire figher

THE death has taken place at the St. Joseph’s District Hospital, Ballina, of Michael (Mickie) Guthrie, St. Patrick’s Avenue, Castlebar.

He was son of the late Michael (Mickie) and Margaret (nee Flynn).

Mickie worked for many years for the Western Health Board (HSE), as a member of its maintenance staff in Castlebar, and he was also a member of the Mayo Fire Service. He was aged 67 years.

He is survived by his brothers Lar (Ballina) Rev. Fr. Charles (Chas) SVD (Manulla), Seamus (Balbriggan, Dublin), sisters Marie Rafter (Crossmolina), Margo O’Malley (Ballina), his nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandneices,

Burial took place today in the New Cemetery following Requiem Mass for the repose of his soul. A guard of honour was formed by members of the Mayo Fire Service, Castlebar.

The death has also taken place of John F. Walsh, 13 St. Bridget's Crescent, Castlebar, and formerly of Westlands, Ballyheane.

His remains will be reposing at the Thomas Street Funeral Home, Castlebar, on Sunday evening from 5.30 p.m. with removal at 7 o’clock to the Church of the Holy Rosary.

Funeral Mass takes place on Monday at 11 o’clock with burial afterwards in the New Cemetery.
