Piggy grand prix for bonamh market

THE Bonamh Market on Rush Street in Castlebar takes place tomorrow (Saturday).

Pat Moran of the organising committee said that this year it’s being run in conjunction with Mayo Heritage Week and Craftworks Mayo - Ceardaíocht Mhaigh Eo to showcase the best of Mayo products.

The traditional pig market was brought back to life in the county town last year and the effort was a great success, with street stalls, livestock and music. All that and more will be part of tomorrow’s market.

To extend the fun for 2015, there will be events tomorrow evening. For the first time ever in Castlebar, the committee will host the Bonamh Market Piggy Grand Prix.

It is run like a 'race night', except specially trained pigs will be trotting instead of virtual horses.

Pigs are available to buy at €30 each in any of the six pubs on the street. There will be music on the street until 11.30 p.m.

There will also be a busking competition during the day with €150 in prizes.
