Fresh warning to motorists ahead of more sub-zero temperatures

A NUMBER of accidents occurred on Mayo roads this morning as a result of the icy conditions.

The main Foxford to Swinford road was blocked to traffic for a short period due to a single vehicle collision.

Emergency services attended the scene and one person was removed to Mayo University Hospital.

An orange snow-ice warning remains in place for counties Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo with snow accumulations of between four and eight centimetres expected.

Met. Eireann confirmed tonight temperatures could drop to -6 in places and tomorrow Saturday will be a very cold day, but he says Sunday will be milder.

Gardai across the region are advising motorists to slow down and take due caution as back roads that have not been gritted are particularly dangerous.
