IRELAND'S oldest citizen, Molly Madden, has passed away in Ballina. She was 109 years old.

The Ballycastle native had been living in the Moy Ridge Nursing Home, where she celebrated her 109th birthday just last month.

Molly Madden (nee Keane) became the oldest living Irish native in December 2014 and, according to reports, was Mayo's oldest ever person.

She will repose at Lynn's Funeral Home, Killala, tomorrow evening (Sunday, January 17) from 5 p.m., with removal at 7 to St. Bridget's Church, Ballycastle, arriving at 7.30.

Mass on Monday is at 12 noon, followed by burial in Ballycastle Cemetery. May she rest in peace.
