Mayo schools in limbo over loss of vital support

TWO Mayo secondary schools are in limbo because vital supports have been withdrawn from them.

Deputy Dara Calleary spoke at length in Dáil Éireann over the fact Colaiste Pobail Acla and Inver National School are left without DEIS (Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools) funding. 

The college in Achill lost its DEIS status in 2011 when McHale College amalgamated with Scoil Damhnait.

Minister of State Damian English informed Deputy Calleary that there will be no change in either schools’ situation before the overall review of schools which is underway.

But any changes resulting from that review will not come into effect before 2017.

Deputy Calleary argued that the current situation is simply not acceptable,
