Fatal accident on N5 in Mayo

ONE person has died this evening (Friday) following a road accident on the N5 between Charlestown and Swinford.

Three vehicles, two trucks and a car, were involved in the smash which occurred around 4.45 p.m.

Emergency services were quickly on the scene and a number of injured people were rushed in a fleet of ambulances to Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar.

Following the accident, the N5 has been closed to traffic.

Gardaí, who are looking for witnesses to the impact, say the route won't be re-opened until about midday tomorrow (Saturday).
