Voting in Mayo continues at steady pace

VOTER turnout in the general election in Mayo is on average running at between 25% and 30% this afternoon.

Latest figures from the polling stations show that by 3.30 p.m. turnout in Castlebar ranged from 24% (Scoil Raifteiri) to 29% (St. Patrick's NS).

In Westport, some 30.5% of those eligible to vote at Scoil Phadraig had done so.

The rural booths across the county are running at 22% but that will pick up somewhat as people return home from work.

Polling stations are open until 10 p.m. tonight.
