Mayo election candidates in race against time

MAYO general election candidates are in a race against time. . .to remove their campaign posters by midnight tonight or face the prospect of heavy fines.

Under litter laws - campaign posters and the cable ties - must be taken down from lampposts and telegraph poles by 12 a.m. . . .six hours away.

If not, candidates will be fined €150 euro for each one still left up tomorrow.

Looking around the streets of Castlebar this afternoon, it looks like some candidates are in for a busy evening.
