Rural Training Garden Centre is now open

THE HSE Rural Training Centre, located just off the Humbert Way ring road in Castlebar, have re-opened their beautiful garden centre for the summer season.

Although visitors are under no obligation to purchase, it is worthwhile to pop by to see the selection on offer or to just appreciate the mature gardens which are now coming into bloom.

The centre also has an organically grown vegetable plot which is now starting to come into its growing season.

The centre is well stocked, with a large selection of perennial plants, garden shrubs, specimen plants and roses. Due to previous sales trends, this year’s stock has a strong emphasis on cottage garden plants which include lupins, Iris, foxgloves, Ligularia and wild rockets.

The centre is part of the HSE Mayo Mental Health Service, which provides supports for people with ongoing mental illnesses. Nature and gardening has been highly recognised internationally in the therapeutic values to our mental wellbeing. In addition, the service users who attend the centre generally speak of having a great appreciation for these outdoor activities.

Other facilities available at the centre this time of year include the relaxation room, hairdressing, snooker, darts, a mini cinema, and other outreach services.

The centre is opened from Monday to Friday from 8.30 a.m. to 4.15 p.m. For further information, contact Andy at (094) 9042127 or andy.neary@hse.ie.
