Thousands set to walk from Darkness Into Light

HAVE you set your alarm for Saturday's early morning Darkness Into Light walk? It seems lots of you have, with registration figures currently far greater than last year and Pieta House expecting numbers to exceed the goal of 120,000 participants.

Darkness Into Light (DIL) is a unique, early morning experience which begins in darkness at 4.15 a.m. as thousands of people walk or run a 5k route while dawn is breaking.

Last year’s event attracted over 100,000 participants in over 80 locations across Ireland and abroad.

DIL is the flagship fundraiser for suicide and self-harm charity Pieta House which is this year celebrating its tenth anniversary.

This Saturday, May 7, Ballina, Shrule, Westport and the newly added Mayo venues of Erris and Claremorris are set to host a DIL event. For those of you in east Mayo, there's a walk also this year in nearby Banada.

Last year’s Darkness Into Light in Mayo was an incredible success and we’re delighted that they’re hosting the event again this year,” said Joan Freeman, founder of Pieta House.

We’re so grateful for your continued support. Your courage, vision and generosity has helped Pieta House to bring hope to over 5,000 people alone last year. Together we’re leading the way with Darkness Into Light now reaching communities from Westport to Abu Dhabi and many more across the world.”
