Community mourns passing of Ann Moran

THE death of Ann Moran (née McGreal), Rush Street and Ross East, Castlebar, has evoked a sense of immense sorrow and loss in the county town.

A member of one of Breaffy's oldest and most respected families, she was held in very high regard by the community at large.

The deceased was a popular figure in the local licencing trade and was widely admired for her courtesy and professionalism.

In recent years, she ran the busy St. Helena's Bar (Paddy Moran's) at Rush Street with her husband, John, and family members.

In earlier years Ann and John successfully operated the bar at the former Castlebar Airport at Breaffy Road before opening a public house of their own at Spencer Street which also served food to their customers.

Ann was a tireless and dedicated worker who also found time to organise deep sea fishing and other events in aid of local causes and charities.

As a mark of respect to the deceased, the planned Heritage Day in Castlebar, scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed.

Deepest sympathy is extended to her husband John, sons Jonathan and Michael, brothers Michael Joe, Edward, Noel, Mairtín and Timothy, sisters Mary, Roma, Frankie, Margaret and Olivia, daughter-in-law Sinead, granddaughter Sarah, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, aunts-in-law, neighbours and a large circle of friends.

Her remains will be reposing at Coady's Funeral Home this evening (Wednesday) evening at 4.30 p.m. with removal at 8 p.m. to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar.

Burial takes place in the New Cemetery, Castlebar, on Thursday folowing Requiem Mass at 11 a.m. for the repose of her soul.
