Gardaí called to scene of Mayo open-air rave

GARDAÍ in Castlebar have confirmed there were called out today to the scene of an all-night 'rave' on the outskirts of the town.

They were acting on a complaint by a number of residents in the Kilkenny Cross vicinity.

The open air event, described as a large dance party featuring performances by DJs playing electronic music, took place on private lands.

It is understood it started after 2 a.m. and continued until 7.45 a.m., much to the anger of those close by trying to sleep. One observer described the sound as 'so loud' at around 5 a.m.

No arrests were made by the garda officers who carried out an inspection of the event.

Concerns were raised with An Garda Siochána that a similar event is planned for the same location tonight.

The Connaught Telegraph has learned that small scale raves have been taking place at the site in question over the past number of months.

But the party earlier this morning was the biggest to date, attracting a significant number of young people.
