Man arrested following raid on Mayo bookie shop

A SUSPECT has been arrested by gardai last night (Saturday) following a raid on a bookie shop in Castlebar in which several thousand euro was taken.

All of the money stolen from Ladbrokes' betting shop at Castle Street around 9 p.m. was recovered.

It is understood staff were threatened by a lone individual carrying a heavy implement - a large, unbroken bottle.

In in a follow-up operation, gardai later arrested a man at Linenhall Street in the town.

He is to appear at a sitting of Galway District Court tomorrow (Monday) morning.
