Minister of State Michael Ring turning the sod this morning at Tubberhill

Boost with 21 new social housing units

MINISTER of State Michael Ring today (Friday) turned the sod for phase two of the Tubberhill housing development in Westport.

Phase two will see 21 social housing units built on lands in Tubberhill. The cost of the scheme, including land, fees, etc., is €5.5m.

Phase one of the development consisted of 43 units, constructed in 2008 and occupied from 2009 onwards. Remaining lands at this location are being used for the provision of a Primary Care Centre by the HSE.

The second phase will have 14 houses (three four-bed, 11 three-bed house) and apartments (five two-bed and two one-bed apartments).

Following procurement, the contract was awarded to Castlebar-based Mountain View Construction.

The development provides for ground floor commercial space at the interface between the housing/primary care site. The scheme has been designed by Mayo County Council's in-house architects department and external consultants have been procured to deliver specialist expertise.

Said Minister Ring: “I am delighted to officially turn the sod for phase two of this development. I understand from preliminary figures that Westport, like other areas, has a need for social housing and hopefully this development will go some way towards meeting this demand.”
