Funding of €700,000 for Western Alzheimers facility in Mayo

MARIAN House in Ballindine, the headquarters of Western Alzheimers, is to benefit from funding of €700,000.

The funding was confirmed by the Minister for Health, Simon Harris, during his visit to Mayo today when he met with the facility's management and viewed the excellent work by them and their staff.

The funding will involve a once-off payment of €400,000 this year and a further €300,000 early in 2017.

Welcoming the announcement, Taoiseach Enda Kenny said: 'This funding is significant to Western Alzheimers as they have to upgrade some of their infrastructure in order to comply with HIQA requirements.

'This new funding will allow for Marian House to be upgraded and it will secure the future of this vitally important facility for the people of Mayo and further afield.'
