Threat to Mayo bus routes to have Dáil airing

A NUMBER of parliamentary questions are to be lodged when Dáil Éireann reconvenes on Tuesday over the feared closure of four Expressway routes in Mayo.

The routes under threat from the proposed closing down of Bus Éireann’s Expressway network of services are Dublin to Westport via Knock airport return, Dublin Airport to Ballina return, Ballina to Galway return and Galway to Knock airport return.

The services in question also cater for passengers in the towns of Castlebar, Claremorris and Swinford. Their closure would have a devastating impact on many people.

Deputy Dara Calleary said the situation is very worrying and he will be seeking anwsers when the business of the Oireachtas resumes.

“At this point the picture looks very serious,” he added.

The shutting-down move is being mooted by the company as the only viable option for dealing with the company’s perilous financial situation.
