Mayo gets 79 extra rural social scheme places

AN additional 79 rural social scheme places have been confirmed for Mayo.

The news has been welcomed by Taoiseach Enda Kenny.

There will be 30 places allocated to the Mayo North East Leader Partnership Company and 25 for the South West Mayo Development Company.

In addition to these, Udaras na Gaeltachta will receive an extra 24 places, bringing the total additional places to 79 and the total places in Mayo to 641.

Next Monday, An Taoiseach will help launch the Action Plan for Rural Development.

The action plan, which contains more than 250 actions, is a whole-of-Government response to the economic and social development of rural Ireland.

“It will see over €50 million invested in supporting sustainable communities, supporting enterprise and employment, fostering culture and creativity, maximising potential for tourism and recreation and improving infrastructure and connectivity,” he stated.
