End of an era as sacristan retires

SWINFORD parish has seen the end of an era with the retirement of Seamus Maloney as sacristan.

Seamus, who served as sacristan in Swinford Church for over 43 years, retired in recent weeks.

His retirement closes a long connection between his family and Swinford Church.

Seamus took over as sacristan from his mother and she took over from her mother before that.

In all, the family has cared for Swinford Church for almost a century, a wonderful record of loyal and dedicated service.

The clergy and parishioners are deeply grateful to Seamus for his sterling service and commitment over the years. He was in attendance at the church each morning when he opened up and each evening when closing.

Seamus is wished a long healthy and happy retirement.
