Roxy, the missing Mayo parrot.

Missing Mayo parrot Roxy becomes a social media sensation

THE search for the missing Mayo parrott, Roxy, is continuing.

An African Grey Parrott has become a social media sensation with her own Twitter account since leaving its home in the Westlands area of the Quay, Westport, without returning last Wednesday afternoon.

There were reports in the town yesterday that the bird, who looks like a big pigeon with a bright red tail, had been heard in the vicinity of the Quay, but there was no sighting, much to the disappointment of its owners.

When contacted by The Connaught Telegraph, Liz, who would welcome any information about the parrot to be texted to her at 087-2617649, said she is very thankful to all her neighbours and friends for their help to date.

She said: 'Time is a key issue now and we hope the many visitors to the town over the weekend will join in the search. It is really urgent that Roxy is found soon as she is not used to the cold weather. She has never been outside before and will be terrified. All help is greatly appreciated and we remain optimistic.'

Roxy is five years old and African Grey Parrots can live to the age of 65, added Liz.
