Judge approves €30,000 plus offer to injured boy

A CIRCUIT Court judge today (Wednesday) approved an offer of almost €32,000 damages to a boy whose leg was fractured while playing with a ball on rough ground at Westport House in August 2015.

The injured boy was almost three at the time of the accident. Through his mother he sued Model Articles Limited, trading as Westport House, for damages.

Judge Francis Comerford was told at the Circuit Civil Court in Castlebar that the injury occurred while the boy was playing with his siblings at Westport House Caravan Park.

The boy's father had thrown a ball to the children while unloading the family car after arriving at the park.

The judge heard the boy's mother found the child in an extremely distressed state.

The boy was treated at Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar. His right femur was fractured and his leg was in a cast for five and a half weeks.

Judge Comerford approved the offer by an insurance company of €30,000 general damages and €1,692 special damages.
