Surge in break-ins to parked vehicles around Mayo

MAYO gardai have noticed a spike in break-ins to parked vehicles in recent days and have accordingly issued a warning to motorists.

A GPS navigation unit was reported stolen from the pannier of a motorcycle parked near the base of Mweelrea Mountain in south-west Mayo on Wednesday (May 17).

The theft occurred sometime between 11.30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Also on Wednesday a Toyota Auris car parked at Bertra beach had its rear window smashed and a handbag was stolen.

That break-in occurred between 8 p.m. and 8.40 p.m. while the vehicle owner was walking the beach.

On Tuesday (May 16) a handbag was stolen from a Fiat Diablo parked on the approach road to Ireland West Airport Knock.

That break-in occurred between 2.45 p.m and 3 p.m.

Last weekend, two batteries were stolen from a Hitachi digger parked at Charlestown GAA grounds.

The theft occurred sometime between half four on Saturday afternoon and half seven on Monday morning.

And sometime between May 12 and May 15, a quantity of diesel and a jackhammer was stolen from a JCB parked at Charlestown GAA pitch.
