Man airlifted to Mayo University Hospital after crash near Belmullet

A TWO-vehicle collision near Belmullet has resulted in a man being airlifted to Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar due to the seriousness of his injuries.

He was the driver of a van which was involved in an accident with a car on the road (R313) between Bangor and Belmullet shortly after 3 p.m.

The four occupants of the car have also been taken to hospital and their injuries have been described as non life-threatening.

According to AA Roadwatch, the road will to remain closed between the Glenamoy turn-off (R314) and Bangor Erris for forensic examination until Saturday and diversions are in place.

The emergency services were also called to a road accident near Breaffy, Castlebar, this evening. No other details are available at this stage.
