Local Foróige club sure have got talent!

IRISHTOWN Foróige group enjoyed huge success in the Foróige’s Got Talent All-Ireland finals in Carlow’s George Bernard’s Shaw Theatre, winning in two categories.

The Irishtown seniors overcame stiff competition to win the dance category and Irishtown junior group came second in the variety category.

Well done to Irishtown – huge success for a small club.

It is a great boast for the small Mayo club to take first and second in a competition of over 30 acts. Both acts put in a lot of hard work and practice into their acts and it shows that hard work pays off.

The senior club did a hard shoe dance with no music – just rhythmic beats. There were five girls involved – Megan Byrne, Katie Melvin, Karina Moran, Eilis McDermott and Maire Feerick.

The girls danced on boards, with each girl having a solo piece throughout the dance. They had been working on the dance since the new year and their practice paid off when they scooped the All-Ireland title.

Bernie Kelly, Therese Byrne and Laoise Kelly helped the girls with choreography and the many hours of practice that they put in.

The junior club variety act was called 'The Salmon of Common Sense' and it involved over 20 members. Anne Marie McDermott and Betsy Feerick wrote the short act and involved many members of the junior club.

It was a very funny piece, with everyone looking to buy the Salmon in the hope that it would give them some common sense. The Mayo footballers and even Donald Trump put in an appearance!

There was a great celebration for them back in Irishtown when they returned home on Saturday evening, with bonfires lit and a reception in the community centre where the two acts performed again for the community.
