Death of Mayo GP evokes immense sense of loss

THE death of Dr. Bob (Patrick) Healy, Spencer Park, Castlebar, has cast a shadow over the county.

A native of Binghamstown, Belmullet, the deceased contributed hugely to the community over the years through his busy GP practice.

A man of immense integrity and generosity, he was a lifelong follower of Mayo GAA and was medic to the Mayo senior football squad for a number of years. The deceased was a loyal member of Castlebar Golf Club for many years.

In his youth, he was an accomplished boxer and won two Irish university boxing titles.

He is survived by his wife Sheila, son Paddy (Corofin, Co. Galway), daughters Fiona (Malta), Deirdre (Dublin), Orla (Castlebar), sister Mary (Buckinghamshire), daughter-in-law Olivia, sons-in-law Richard and Diarmuid, grandchildren Adam, Niamh, Eoin and Colin, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours and his many friends, to whom sympathy is tendered.

Dr. Bob was predeceased by his brother, Michael.

His remains will be reposing at Coady's Funeral Home, Linenhall Street, tomorrow evening (Tuesday) from 5 p.m. with removal at 8 p.m. to his residence.

Removal from his residence takes place on Wednesday at 12 noon to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, for Funeral Mass at 1 p.m.

Burial takes place afterwards in the New Cemetery, Castlebar.
