Demand for action over 'homeless' Mayo footballers

THE ongoing difficulties facing Castlebar Mitchels Ladies Gaelic Football Club without a permanent pitch have been highlighted.

Local election candidate Ger Deere said the issue was raised with him on a number of doorsteps on the canvass trail.

The club has 350 players of all ages and rely on the goodwill of Davitt College to play their games.

Said the Fine Gael representative: "They don't have changing facilities for themselves or visiting teams on match days.

"I think the girls and ladies of Castlebar who play Gaelic football deserve better.

"A permanent home needs to be found for the club."
