Mayo gaa engulfed in crisis

MAYO GAA has been plunged into crisis, The Connaught Telegraph can reveal.

The development follows the passing of a vote of no-confidence in the management structure of the county senior football squad, writes Aiden Henry.

The ballot was taken at a secretly-convened meeting of the players on September 19 at Breaffy GAA Club's facility in Ballyheane.

The squad's captain and vice-captain, Keith Higgins and Cillian O'Connor, were delegated to inform joint managers Pat Holmes and Noel Connelly of the bombshell decision and they did so last weekend.

Now Holmes and Connelly face an agonising decision in regard to their future, despite leading the county to an All-Ireland semi-final in their first year in charge.

The Mayo County Board is expected to call an emergency meeting in the coming days to address the concerns of the players, which, it is understood, have yet to be communicated with the management team.
