Cathal Coyne has joined Galway United

Mayo players preparing for FAI League campaign

TWO Mayo players have signed for Galway United's Under-17 squad ahead of next month's start to the FAI League campaign against Kerry.

Castlebar Celtic's Cathal Coyne, who last season starred with Salthill Devon, and Claremorris-based Liam Horkan, formerly of Manulla FC, have been confirmed as members of Alan Murphy's 20-man squad at Terryland Park.

Coyne, who was born in Galway, had a very successful underage career with Celtic and can play in defence or midfield. He is also a member of the St. Gerald's College senior soccer squad.

Horkan is a former Mayo Kennedy Cup and Under-16 captain and is considered one of the brightest prospects in the Connaught.

Another former Castlebar Celtic star, Liam Whyte, has taken up the offer of a place in the Sligo Rovers Under 17 squad, joining up with another Castlebar-based player, Thierry Baba.
