Nominations now open for this years mayo people of the year awards

The purpose of the Mayo People of the Year Awards is to give recognition to people who’s significant achievements may otherwise go unrecognised. Individuals or organisations may be nominated.

WHO MAY NOMINATE?

Any person or organisation.

WHO SHOULD BE NOMINATED?

Any person or organisation within County Mayo who, in the view of the nominating person or organisation, has made an outstanding contribution to their community. Such contributions may be characterised by, for example:

 • Achievement • Commitment • Courage • Persistence • Distinction

SOME ATTRIBUTES RECOGNISED BY THE ADJUDICATORS

Leadership, job creation, youth projects, economic, educational, environmental, professional or cultural development, pioneering or outstanding work on behalf of the disabled or underprivileged.

If you are aware, through your work or your interests, of anyone who might qualify for the award,please nominate the person or organisation on the attached form.

 

MICHAEL DAVITT INTERNATIONAL AWARD

In view of the huge numbers of emigrants who, for one reason or another, have been forced to leave our shores, we feel their achievements abroad should be rewarded. Recognition may also be given to an individual or group who make a significant contribution internationally.

Young Person / YOUNG PEOPLE OF THE YEAR AWARD

The aim of the award is to give recognition to the contribution being made by our young people to society in general and communities in particular. The Young Person / Young People of the Year Award is to recognise the positive role by our young people in enhancing community life.

Gradam na Gaeilge

Tugann Gradam na Gaeilge aitheantas don té no grúpa a bhfuil sár-iarracht leanúnach á dhéanamh acu i gcur chun cinn na Gaeilge agus an chultúir i gCo. Mhaigh Eo.

Gradam na Gaeilge recognises the positive contribution that is being made by an individual or group in the promotion and furtherance of the Irish language and culture in Co. Mayo.

HALL OF FAME AWARD

This award is in recognition of the work of an individual or group who have given years of unstinting service to an organisation, community, county and/or country.

BUSINESS COMMUNITY LIAISON AWARD

This award is aimed at recognising the involvement of businesses in their local communities

 

NOMINATION FORMS

Nomination forms are now available from RehabCare, Breaffy Road, Castlebar, from Mayo County Council, from the offices of The Connaught Telegraph or you can download from here. Nominations can also be made online by filling out the form from here.

The closing date for the receipt of entries is Thursday, October 17.

The awards will be presented at a gala banquet in Breaffy House Hotel, Castlebar on Saturday night, November 17th.
