Christmas comes early new school for scoil phadraig in westport

The long running saga of a new school building for Scoil Phadraig in Westport is at an end tonight.

It has been confirmed that the primary school has been included on the 2015 School Building Programme. This will be a new school building project and construction is expected to start in 2015.

Scoil Phadraig had completed Stage 2(b) of the school building process, meaning it is ready to proceed to tender. The required funding has been allocated to the project.

Commented Taoiseach Enda Kenny: “This is very welcome news for the pupils, their parents, and the staff of Scoil Phadraig. I have discussed this matter with Minister of State, Michael Ring, the local Fine Gael team, and it is a very positive development for the area.

“As the project is ready to go to tender, I expect that work will be underway during 2015 and I look forward to works commencing on the new school.”

Deputy Ring, too, has warmly welcomed this early Christmas present for the whole school community – pupils, teachers and parents.

Construction will begin next year also on an extension to Ballyhaunis Community School.

Ballyhaunis Community School has been in existence for 37 years and has not received any major refurbishment in this time.
