Will he get his comeuppance? All will be revealed in the Royal Theatre on Friday and Saturday.

Beyond the barricade comes to castlebar

A PRODUCTION that packed out Ballina Arts Centre for four nights prior to Christmas is now coming to the Royal Theatre in Castlebar for a two-night run.

Brought to you by the Ballina-based Heroes for Hospice group, the spectacular show – entitled Beyond the Barricade – features some top musical talent in an 80+ strong cast that includes world champion performers, all directed by Lavinia Gilmartin.

The four-night run in Ballina sold out in days and left audiences awe-struck by the powerful, moving and highly entertaining production. The overwhelming response and demand for more shows resulted in the group being invited to take Beyond the Barricade to the county town for another two-night run in the Royal Theatre, where it will be staged this Friday and Saturday, January 16 and 17, at 8 p.m.

This is a real coup for the Heroes for Hospice group, who put the show together in aid of the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation. “The four-night run in Ballina sold out within a matter of days but this now gives many who missed their chance in December a great opportunity to go along and enjoy this fabulous production,” said Laurita Blewitt, fundraiser with Mayo Roscommon Hospice. “Heroes for Hospice, Lavinia and all the crew are so diligent, and their hard work and voluntary efforts are very much appreciated by all at Mayo Roscommon Hospice.”

The foundation is close to many hearts in Ballina and surrounding areas, having provided much-appreciated financial assistance and services to the town’s district hospital for many years.

Planning has now been sought for the delivery of the county’s first dedicated hospice unit at Knockaphunta in Castlebar. This is phase one and will be a 14-bed centre with day care facilities and a base for the palliative home care team.

“Fundraising projects like Beyond the Barricade by Ballina Heroes for Hospice are of such benefit to the hospice and are gratefully received,” added Laurita.

Dramatic, exhilarating, funny, romantic, heartbreaking and inspirational, Beyond the Barricade is a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit, so don’t miss this chance to catch one of the top musical productions in Mayo this year.
