Claremorris designer wins prestigious award

A YOUNG graphic designer from Claremorris is top of the world.

Laurie Concannon (24), daughter of Gerry and Catherine Concannon, Castlemacgarrett, Claremorris, has been selected overall winner of the Yamaha International GDAY design award.

Laurie’s design was chosen out of 1,100 entries by a panel of renowned international designers.

The grand prize involves a cash payment of $10,000, which Laurie intends to use ‘in furthering my education, broadening my horizons through travel and continued experimentation in design’.

Laurie, who is currently in her final year of study at Dublin Institute of Design, said she never anticipated such a wonderful outcome.

She added: “I was absolutely thrilled to have been selected for the shortlist. To win the grand prize is just beyond words.

“It is such a fantastic honour to have my work selected by such an esteemed company as Yamaha and by such a renowned graphic designer as head juror Neville Brody.”

Laurie is a past pupil of Mount St. Michael Secondary School and Scoil Muire Gan Smál, Claremorris. Both schools are justifiably proud of her achievements as indeed is the entire local community.
