End of an era at lyons late and early

POPULAR Castlebar retail trio, Dave, Geraldine and Joe Lyons, have spent their final weekend running the Lyons’ Late and Early store at Davitts Terrace, Castlebar.

However, Dave and Geraldine’s twin sons, Alan and Keith, will be involved for some time assisting the new owners (unnamed as yet) in the running of the enterprise.

The Lyons opened at Davitts Terrace in 1988. From small beginnings in a former dwellinghouse, the shop has grown to a 19,000 square feet property.

Open 109 hours per week, with a distinctive, colourful frontage, the shop boasts a well-stocked off-licence as well as a lottery outlet.

The new owners, who are non-Irish, took over the running of Lyons' at the weekend.
