Community mourns as jason mcnulty will be laid to rest tomorrow

Twenty-five-year-old Jason McNulty from Meelick, Swinford, whose body was recovered in Galway at the weekend, will be laid to rest tomorrow (Thursday).

Jason was last seen leaving the Connacht Hotel, which is situated three kilometres from Galway city centre, on the Dublin Road, around 6 a.m. on Wednesday of last week.

The young man’s tragic death has devastated his family and the entire local community. A group from the Swinford area were amongst those who participated in searches of the Galway Bay shoreline.

Jason is son of popular Meelick couple John (ESB) and Margaret (Baxter). He is also survived by his brothers, Declan, Lorcan and Stephen, and by a sister, Leonie.

Over the weekend, the young man’s family thanked friends and volunteers for their help and support after his body was found.

Jason had been living in Castlebar in recent times, but went to Galway early last week for the city’s unofficial student Rag Week celebrations. Concerned family and friends had launched appeals on Facebook and Twitter asking people to help find him.

Jason’s remains are reposing at his home until 8 p.m. this evening (Wednesday). Mass on Thursday is in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Swinford, at midday, with the funeral proceeding to Kilconduff Cemetery.
