1500 reward in horrific dog cruelty case

Animal rights group ARAN is today responding to a deluge of calls from outraged members of the public in Mayo in response to a horrific and confirmed case of cruelty documented by the North West SPCA of a bloodied dog pulled from a river with its neck tied to a concrete brick.

As a result of this latest case of cruelty, the group is offering a reward of up to €1,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible.

It is imperative that any community faced with a violent act such as this takes measures to find the culprit or culprits responsible and bring them to justice,” commented ARAN’s John Carmody.

Animal abusers are a danger to everyone – they take their issues out on whomever is available to them, human or non-human, and must be apprehended before they act again, which is why we hope this reward from ARAN of €1,500 will get people picking up the phone to give us or the authorities the information needed to cage the monsters.”

ARAN has constantly pushed for the new Animal Health and Welfare Bill to be taken seriously and used, and has called on Minister Simon Coveney to start bringing more cases of cruelty to animals before the courts in order to make an example of those who are caught and to deter those considering such brutal acts.

The group has also consistently pushed for convicted animal abusers to be psychologically evaluated.

Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact the gardaí in Ballina directly on (096) 20560, or the local SPCA or ARAN.
