Taoiseach congratulates castlebar students on national win

An Taoiseach Enda Kenny has congratulated four students of St. Gerald's College in Castlebar on being named the national winners of the prestigious 2015 Generation €uro Students’ Award.

Transition-year pupils Mark Balaski, James Hughes, Enda Mulchrone and Mark Benson will represent Ireland at the European Central Bank (ECB) next month, where they will meet ECB president Mario Draghi and the other winning teams from across the euro zone to take part in a series of workshops and events.

In his message, An Taoiseach stated: 'I congratulate St. Gerald’s College on this really great achievement. I had the pleasure of speaking with the students a number of weeks ago during their Positive Mental Health Week and was delighted to hear of their latest success. I want to commend team captain Mark Balaski along with James Hughes, Enda Mulchrone and Mark Benson. I also acknowledge their teacher Regina Casey for her work with the students in winning this competition.

'I know the young men will travel to Frankfurt next month and I will personally ask ECB president Mario Draghi to keep an eye out for the team of sharp young minds from my own alma mater!”
