6000 people sign free parking petition

Business leaders in Claremorris have handed over a petition signed by 6,000 people calling for one hour's free parking in the town.

No service has to be cut, no charge has to be raised, and no group has to lose out to give Claremorris parity with Westport on parking,” says Jimmy Flynn of the Chamber of Commerce.

A fraction of the €37.3 million overspent by Mayo County Council from 2008 to 2013 can fund this simple change. It works in Westport, it will work in Claremorris.”

The results of the local 'referendum' were handed over to councillors Richard Finn and Tom Connolly.
