Elverys announce 40 new jobs

SPORTS retailer Elverys Intersport, which has 55 stores across the country, has announced the creation of 40 new jobs across the group - 10 of them in Castlebar.

The jobs announcement, made by Taoiseach Enda Kenny in Castlebar, reflects Elverys Intersport's ambition for the sports retail sector in Ireland. Over the course of this year, the group is investing €1.5 million across its retail network and online platform.

The Taoiseach was also on hand to present certificates to 11 employees who successfully completed the Elverys Intersport trainee management programme. The programme, in its first year, is run in partnership with Laois Offaly Education Training Board and is a FETAC level 5 qualification.

Commenting on the jobs, Mr. Kenny said: “I want to commend Elverys Intersport on today’s announcement. It represents a positive step forward for the company and adds to the 100,000 jobs created since this government launched the Action Plan for Jobs. Our job as government is to continue to ensure economic stability so that the recovery can reach every region of the country.

As a proud Mayo GAA fan, the Elverys logo is very familiar to me, and it is heartening to see an indigenous Irish sports retailer as successful as Elverys Intersport. I acknowledge their commitment to the north west in particular and wish them every success in the future.”

Patrick Rowland, chief executive, Elverys Intersport, said: “The 40 new jobs will be created right across our network in our e-commerce, marketing, retail management and retail operations’ departments. The spend across the group represents our commitment to the future success of Elverys Intersport in Ireland.

We are deploying €1.5 million across the development of our retail network and our online platform over the course of the year. This includes a complete refit of our Blanchardstown, Sligo and Arklow stores, the opening of a new store in St. Stephen’s Green, the shop fronts of all stores and the development of a new online platform.”
