Ballinrobe bakery jobs blow

SOME 80 workers at the Irish Pride bakery in Ballinrobe got the grim news today (Friday) that they aren't part of a rescue deal agreed for the overall company, which recently went into receivership.

Well known firm Pat the Baker has agreed a deal with Irish Pride Bakeries for the purchase of the company assets.

Over 250 jobs have been secured by the sale. However, the deal does not include the Irish Pride plant, formerly Western Pride, in Ballinrobe.

In a statement issued on their behalf today, KPMG Receivers said the operations at the Mayo plant are to be wound down.

A redundancy consultation process with the local workers involved is to begin immediately.
