Death of widelyknown pontoon resident

THE sudden death has taken place of Mrs. Elizabeth (Betty) Connolly (nee Cregan), Pontoon Lodge, Pontoon, Foxford.

In her 70s, the deceased was wife of Dr. John F. Connolly, former proprietor of The Connaught Telegraph, Castlebar. She was mother of Stephen Connolly, who was manager of the newspaper for many years.

Betty, a native of Ardralla, Skibbereen, Co. Cork, had been a nurse by profession and was closely involved with the Mayo Mental Health Association.

She is survived by her husband John, sons Diarmuid, Pat and Stephen, daughter Niamh, and extended families, to whom sympathy is tendered. She is also survived by her brothers and sister.

Her remains will be reposing at her residence tomorrow (Thursday) evening from 4 to 7 p.m.

Removal takes place on Friday morning at 10 o’clock for Requiem Mass in the Church Of The Holy Rosary, Castlebar, at 11 a.m. followed by burial in the Old Cemetery, Castlebar.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.
