Accused changes plea to guilty on sex assault child porno charges

A MAN pleaded guilty at Castlebar Circuit Criminal Court today (Thursday) to charges of sexual assault, attempted buggery and possession of child pornography.

The accused, who cannot be named for legal reasons, initially pleaded not guilty to the charges but changed his plea when re-arraigned before Judge Rory MacCabe.

The offences, involving a minor, were committed in the west of Ireland on various dates between the years 2000 and 2006.

Judge MacCabe remanded the accused in custody until February 3 next. He ordered that a medical report be prepared on health issues raised by the defendant's legal team.
