James horan rules himself out of a mayo return

JAMES Horan has ruled himself out of the race to become the new Mayo senior football team manager, writes Aiden Henry.

He had been strongly linked with a return to the post since the majority of the county’s senior football squad passed a vote of no-confidence last month in joint managers Noel Connelly and Pat Holmes, whom have since resigned.

Horan's announcement is widely considered a blow to many of the county team panellists who wanted him back.

Mayo County Board is currently holding an investigation into why the players took their stand and some delegates at last week’s county board meeting expressed concern that ‘outside influences’ were involved.

Now Stephen Rochford, the current Corofin manager, is the leading candidate for the vacancy which is expected to be filled next month.
