Smash and grab gang preying on funerals

SMASH and grab thieves in south Mayo preyed on a number of vehicles belonging to mourners attending funerals at the weekend.

On Saturday evening, between 7.15 and 7.45 pm, a Ford Focus car belonging to a person attending a funeral in Irishtown had its passenger window smashed.

Wisely the owner had her handbag in the boot of the vehicle but the thief or thieves located it. Luckily, the bag was practically empty.

On the same evening (Saturday), between 7 and 8.40 p.m., the passenger window of a Skoda Octavia belonging to a person attending a funeral in Ballindine was broken.

Taken from the vehicle were two handbags, a mobile phone and sunglasses.

Investigating gardai (094-71222) would welcome information as to any suspicious activity in the Irishtown/ Ballindine areas on Saturday evening.
