Fianna Fail and Sinn Fein in Mayo venue clash

THE Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin parties in Mayo are on a collision course.

They have both booked the same venue in Castlebar next Thursday night for major events, but neither of them are prepared to budge.

Fianna Fáil leader Michéal Martin is scheduled to arrive at the Welcome Inn Hotel for the launch of local Councillor Lisa Chambers’ general election campaign just as a public meeting on Mayo health services, organised by Sinn Féin, is set to get underway at 7 p.m.  

The Sinn Féin event, entitled 'Building a Public Health System that delivers for the West' will feature a talk from Dr. David Hickey, a transplant surgeon who served as the director of the National Kidney and Transplant Programme, on the topic of 'building a coalition to fight for a national health system in Ireland.'

Mayo Sinn Féin Councillor Rose Conway-Walsh, who is also a candidiate ij the four-seat Mayo constituency, is also die speak about the realities for the people of Mayo of the healthcare crisis such as MRI waiting lists, delays in processing medical cards and broken promises on rheumatology services in the county while Deputy Pearse Doherty will outline Sinn Féin’s alternative for our national healthcare system.
