Sunniest day recorded in Mayo

FEEL like it's been raining forever?

You might find it hard to believe but the highest daily sunshine in a day this autumn was recorded in Mayo. Belmullet had the country's sunniest day on September 8, with 12.6 hours of sun, according to the latest weather summaries issued by Met Éireann.

Of course, it couldn't all be good news and Mayo also recorded the highest number of dull days in the autumn and November summaries, ranging from 27 days at Belmullet to 35 at Knock airport.

Seasonal rainfall totals were variable across the country, with the majority of places reporting below LTA rainfall. Variable monthly rainfall was reported in September, with mainly above average rainfall in November and below average in October.

The wettest day was on September 11 in Newport - its wettest autumn day since 1968, and its highest second since the station opened in 1960. In November, Newport again saw it recording the month’s wettest day, with 66.2 mm of rain on November 14.

The outlook for the weekend ahead is for more rain.
