Flooding at the lakeside walk at Lough Lannagh, Castlebar

Section of Castlebar lakeside walk is closed

A SECTION of the popular lakeside walk at Lough Lannagh in Castlebar is closed today due to flooding.

The lake burst its banks overnight as a result of the heavy rains, causing early morning afternoons walkers to take a diversion.

It's a minor inconvenience compared to the flooding witnessed in other locations around the county including the towns of Crossmolina, Westport and Ballinrobe as well as Ballylahan Bridge in Straide.

Mopping-up operations are underway as weather condition have returned to normal.

The N59 road through Crossmolina Town reopened to traffic earlier after the town was completely flooded yesterday – for the second time in a number of weeks. Most of the town is still without power as ESB crews continue to try to restore power to the homes and businesses there.
