Victim of fatal Mayo road accident is named

THE pedestrian who died after being struck by a car near Ballyhaunis yesterday has been named as Joe Cleary, Gurraune, Ballyhaunis.

The father of 10 was in the process of removing a dead horse from the road when the tragedy occurred.

The accident happened at Grallagh in the east Mayo town just before 11 p.m. on Wednesday night.

It is understood Mr. Cleary’s horse had been killed in an earlier accident and he was in the process of moving the animal when he was struck by an oncoming car.

His remains will be reposing at Donnellan’s Funeral Home, Ballyhaunis, tomorrow evening from 4 to 6 p.m., with Requiem Mass for the repose of his soul on Sunday at 12 noon in St Patrick’s Church, Ballyhaunis. Burial takes place afterwards in Ballinrobe Cemetery.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the Cleary family on their huge loss.
